Setting contacts to “Private” in Outlook 2007

Setting your contacts to private in your Outlook contact list will ensure that when someone else opens your contacts, they wont see the contacts that they don’t need to see. Here’s one way to do it if you have a lot of them to change:

Open the contact list and set it to “phone list” view.

Right click on “Full name” in the right pane, and select “Field Chooser”. This will bring up the following menu:
Change the category at the top to “All Contact Fields” and scroll down to “Private”.  You can then click on the “private” button, and drag it over into the contact list headings, and drop it where you like it.

Notice I’ve only got 3 boxes showing. This is just a glitch, if you click the area where the boxes should be, they’ll check off the way they’re supposed to.

  1. VERY helpful! Many thanks. This gives me the ability to more quickly mark individual contacts, BUT… is there now any way to mark multiple contacts and make them Private”
